ASTM F1044: Standard Test Method for Shear Testing of Calcium Phosphate Coatings and Metallic Coatings

This test method covers shear testing of continuous calcium phosphate coatings and metallic coatings adhering to dense metal substrates at ambient temperatures. It assesses the degree of adhesion of coatings to substrates, or the internal cohesion of a coating in shear, parallel to the surface plane.

Typically n=6 flat cylindrical, coated specimens are glued against a matching counterpart and load up to failure.

Be aware!
Precision in Shear Testing – Why Alignment Matters

Alignment is critical! Even minor misalignments between the shear surface and load axis can introduce tensile stresses up to 50% of the shear stress, compromising test accuracy. At Endolab, we have established strict processes to ensure precise alignment and reliable testing, delivering accurate and trustworthy results for your implant evaluations.

Let us help you achieve reliable shear testing with confidence.
