PI-11: Static/Dynamic Compressive Load Test – Hip Insert

This internal procedure describes the static and dynamic compression test of modular hip cup inserts. Due to the variety of designs in clinical use, this test procedure might require modifications to special design features.

The load as well as the load directions simplify the in-vivo load conditions. Great care should be taken when testing non-symmetric implants or implants with special design features that might require modified and/or additional tests. The hip cup is embedded in a fixture at a predefined inclination. A static or dynamic load is applied until a predefined number of cycles is reached or failure occurs.
