EndoLab offers customized wear testing for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) implants using the proprietary EndoLab® A3R simulator. The test setup enables implant components to be evaluated under dynamic, chewing-like conditions and supports manufacturers in generating meaningful performance data for development, verification, and regulatory documentation.

Since no standardized wear testing protocol for TMJ implants is currently available, EndoLab works closely with the client to define a suitable test setup based on the intended application, implant design, and project requirements. The simulator applies rotational movements in the sagittal and transverse planes, along with anterior-posterior translation. Movement angles, loading conditions, cycle numbers, and further test parameters can be flexibly adapted to client-specific requirements.

Testing is typically performed for 5 million cycles under static loading in a fluid medium representative of human synovial fluid, providing a realistic basis for assessing wear behavior.

To deliver a more comprehensive understanding of implant performance, EndoLab can also provide additional analyses upon request. These include gravimetric wear determination, wear particle characterization, and quantification of metal ions released into the test fluid.
